TJC Global has a vast network of court interpreters based all over the world. They cover over 80 languages.

Our qualified court interpreters can assist with all types of cases. They have many years of experience working in this pressured environment and an extensive command of legal vocabulary. As we only employ native speakers, in addition to accurate and professional interpreting, TJC Global court interpreters are aware of subtle nuances, cultural slang and colloquialisms, adjusting their interpretation accordingly. Our court interpreters assist court cases of varied lengths, providing both short- and long-term support.

TJC court interpreters also work outside of court, in areas such as depositions, witness preparation, meetings between attorneys, solicitors, barristers and clients and interviews with court personnel. In our 30 years providing court interpreting services, we have worked closely with many solicitors, barristers, attourneys and other legal professionals.

What is court interpreting?

When court proceedings involve parties or witnesses who do not speak the local language, court interpreters are essential. Unlike at international conferences, court interpreters do not work in a booth with a headset. They often have to interpret for speakers who are nervous and less articulate than normal because of the pressure of the court environment, adding to the demands of the interpreter's job. These pressures mean court interpreters may ask the judge for a break in the middle of proceedings.

Interpreting forms we offer in court:

Consecutive interpreting is the most common form of interpreting used in court. The interpreter listens to the speaker, often making notes, and subsequently delivers the meaning in the target language. If a speech is delivered, the interpreter may wait until a pause or the end, at which point they deliver a translation relatively quickly.

It is becoming more common to use simultaneous interpreting services in a court environment. This form of interpretation is usually delivered by two interpreters from inside a booth. They listen to the speaker (in the source language) through a headset and simultaneously interpret the speech into the target language via a microphone, swapping every 15 - 20 minutes to avoid fatigue.
