German is the official language of Germany, and one of the twenty-three languages of the European Union. Native speakers number almost 100 million, with approximately 80 million speaking it as a second language. It is closely related to English, Dutch and Frisian languages, and uses the twenty-six letters of the Latin alphabet plus three vowels with umlauts (also called diaeresis): ä, ö, ü, in addition to the “Scharfes ‘S'” or “eszet”: ß. German is also spoken in Austria, Luxembourg, Lichtenstein, some parts of Italy, and is one of the four main languages of Switzerland, the others being French, Italian and Romansh. Of course, in these countries, accents can be strong and Swiss German is well known for being relatively unintelligible to speakers of standard German.
There are also various German dialects within Germany, tracing back to the different German tribes, many of which demonstrate substantial differences in lexicon, phonology and syntax to standard or “High German”. People from Bavaria (one of the Southern “Länder”), for instance, often have very different words for things than those in general use; while “Plattdeutsch” aka “Plattdüütsch” or “Low German” is a language of its own, traditionally spoken in the Northern counties of Germany, which uses an orthography similar to Dutch.
If you require language services for a specific German dialect, i.e. anything other than High German, please do not hesitate contact us. We will always do our very best to fulfil your requirements.
What forms of interpretation can TJC Global provide?
Video / videoconference interpreting: (also Video Remote Interpreting available) TJC provide language interpreting services to support events such as business discussions, conferences, legal / court / arbitration / litigation, and all other online business interactions in industry during these challenging times.
Participants can communicate with one another via video or voice calls using laptops, smartphones, tablets etc. These can be recorded should you wish to take minutes. Our professionally qualified interpreters can join your online virtual meeting, event, or proceeding, for example, and interpret remotely in the language pairing you require, so as to facilitate smooth communication between all parties.
Telephone / teleconference interpreting is a practical way to bridge any language barriers. The interpreter is either located remotely (away from either party) or is with one of the parties. In both cases they deliver interpreting services through telephone conferencing.
Telephone interpretation is useful for clients who cannot travel to their counterparts’ country, but still wish, for example, to hold business discussions or to communicate progress updates. At TJC Global, we are very happy to provide you with professionally qualified interpreters around the world in almost any selected language combinations.
Simultaneous interpreting (also available with Video Remote Interpretation (VRI))
is used for international conferences, critical business discussions, seminars & symposiums. In this case, there are usually two to three interpreters situated in a booth, away from the audience, who take turns to interpret at high speed, changing over every 15-20 minutes to avoid fatigue.
The interpreters use headsets to listen to the message of the speaker and repeat it immediately (practically “simultaneously”) in the target language for the benefit of relevant audience members.
Consecutive interpreting (also available with Video Remote Interpretation (VRI)) is the most common type of interpreting. It is used for business discussions, negotiations, contract exchanges, commercial, legal, technical discussions, medical or court hearings or on site inspections. The interpreter listens to the speaker, often making notes, and delivers the meaning in the target language afterwards.
The interpreter may wait until a pause or the end, at which point they deliver a translation relatively quickly. Consecutive interpreting may also be used at conferences for panel discussions, Q&A sessions or private discussions between parties – at a stand or elsewhere.

About Business Meeting Interpreting
There are many aspects to business interpreting. Business conferences require interpreting for a larger scale of audience and the interpreting is carried out in a more formal fashion. Business interpreting typically occurs among a few individuals, mostly on private business dealings on a smaller scale. Other business-related scenarios such as interviews, seminars, workshops, negotiations, factory visits, telephone conferences and so on are other areas where professional, accurate business interpreting is needed.
Business interpreting takes two common forms: consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting. Sometimes whispering and telephone interpreting is also used, depending on the circumstances. The interpreter is fluent in both the source and target language, and so will mediate the exchange.
Using professional business interpreters not only helps you to get your message across, expand your business and form firm business relationships, it also shows your will to communicate and work with your foreign partners. The interpreter can facilitate your business dealings and provide a global outlook to your company. Not only will the interpreter be qualified with a recognised academic degree, which demonstrates excellent analysis skills and intellectual maturity, the interpreter will also be tactful in the case of misunderstandings or tense situations, and interpreting will still be delivered in an accurate and professional manner.
Business Meeting interpretation is usually required either on-site or round a table. Delegates listen to the speaker in the source language and when the speaker has finished, the interpreter, who will have taken notes during the speech/presentation, reproduces the message in the target language for those who require it. Consecutive interpretation like this is often used for smaller meetings, business negotiations, annual corporate meetings or at official gatherings where only two or three languages are spoken.
