Around 97% of Poland’s 37 million population call Polish their mother tongue but it is spoken worldwide by approximately 50 million people. With the Polish diaspora one of the largest in the world, it is not surprising that Polish speakers can be found all over the globe, with large communities of Polish speakers residing in Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine. Of the more than 11 million Polish Americans in the USA, over 600,000 speak Polish on a daily basis, while 500,000 people in the UK call Polish their main language.
As a West Slavic language, Polish is closely related to Slovak and Czech and is similar to Russian and to an extent, Bulgarian. After Russian, it is the second most widely-spoken Slavic language.
Polish uses the Latin alphabet in addition to a number of diacritics that alter the sound of a letter. These are called the kreska (which resembles the acute accent used in French) i.e. ć, ń, ó, ś, ź the kropka (a dot above a letter) for the letter ż and the ogonek, or “little tail”, which is used for ą and ę.
Polish has in recent years taken on many loanwords from the lingua franca English, such as “komputer”. Both Latin and German have also had significant influences on the Polish language. Indeed, Latin was once the official language of Poland, while Germany is its long-standing neighbour.
The English words “sable” and “spruce” both come from Polish.
Just like any other nation, Poland has its own business etiquette. See our Doing Business in Poland Page to find out more.
What forms of conference interpreters worldwide can TJC Global provide for business?
Video/videoconference interpreting: (also Video Remote Interpreting is available) TJC provides language interpreting services to support events such as business discussions, conferences, legal/court/arbitration/litigation, and other online business interactions in the industry during these challenging times.
Participants can communicate via video or voice calls using laptops, smartphones, tablets etc. These can be recorded should you wish to take minutes. O r professionally qualified interpreters can join your online virtual meeting, event, or proceeding, for example, and interpret remotely in the language pairing you require to facilitate smooth communication between all parties.
Telephone/teleconference interpreting is a practical way to bridge any language barriers. T e interpreter is either located remotely (away from either party) or is with one of the parties. In both cases, they deliver interpreting services through telephone conferencing.
Telephone interpretation is helpful for clients who cannot travel to their counterparts’ countries but still wish, for example, to hold business discussions or communicate progress updates. At TJC Global, we are pleased to provide professionally qualified interpreters worldwide in almost any selected language combination.
Simultaneous interpreting (also available with Video Remote Interpretation (VRI))
is used for international conferences, critical business discussions, seminars & symposiums. In this case, two to three interpreters are usually situated in a booth, away from the audience, and take turns to interpret at high speed, changing over every 15-20 minutes to avoid fatigue.
The interpreters use headsets to listen to the speaker’s message and repeat it immediately (practically “simultaneously”) in the target language to benefit relevant audience members.
Consecutive interpreting (also available with Video Remote Interpretation (VRI)) is the most common type. It is used for business discussions, negotiations, contract exchanges, commercial, legal, and technical meetings, medical or court hearings or onsite inspections. T e interpreter listens to the speaker, often making notes, and delivers the meaning in the target language afterwards.
The interpreter may wait until a pause or the end, at which point they deliver a translation relatively quickly. Consecutive interpreting may also be used at conferences for panel discussions, Q&A sessions or private discussions between parties – at a stand or elsewhere.

About Business Meeting Interpreting
There are many aspects to business interpreting. Business conferences require interpreting for a larger scale audience and the interpreting is carried out in a more formal fashion. Business interpreting typically occurs among a few individuals, mostly in private business dealings on a smaller scale. Other business-related scenarios such as interviews, seminars, workshops, negotiations, factory visits, telephone conferences and so on are other areas where professional, accurate business interpreting is needed.
Business interpreting takes two common forms: consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting. Sometimes whispering and telephone interpreting is also used, depending on the circumstances. The interpreter is fluent in both the source and target language, and so will mediate the exchange.
Using professional business interpreters not only helps you to get your message across, expand your business and form firm business relationships, it also shows your will to communicate and work with your foreign partners. The interpreter can facilitate your business dealings and provide a global outlook to your company. Not only will the interpreter be qualified with a recognised academic degree, which demonstrates excellent analysis skills and intellectual maturity, the interpreter will also be tactful in the case of misunderstandings or tense situations, and interpreting will still be delivered in an accurate and professional manner.
Business Meeting interpretation is usually required either on-site or round a table. Delegates listen to the speaker in the source language and when the speaker has finished, the interpreter, who will have taken notes during the speech/presentation, reproduces the message in the target language for those who require it. Consecutive interpretation like this is often used for smaller meetings, business negotiations, annual corporate meetings or at official gatherings where only two or three languages are spoken.
